Last month I started using a new remote monitoring system for computers. A monitoring system will send information from a computer to a central database reporting on the health of that computer. The monitoring system can be installed for one pc or for a whole network.
A convenient feature of this monitoring system is the email reporting function. If you have a problem with your computer your email to help@ my domain will automatically show up on my screen alerting me to the problem immediately.
This last month has been very busy for Alden Tech & Design. There have been quite a few questions from customers on how to maintain computers and how to prevent malware from taking over their pcs. Therefore, this newsletter will focus mainly on that topic, and what is better than to get a list of what a computer professional is doing for his own computer?
Of course I am sticking my head out with this list as most computer professionals have their own list. But my list is working for me and that counts!! :-)
You will find my suggestions in the ATD blog on this address: http://www.aldentd.com/content/maintaining-your-windows-computer.
Another question that has come up from a couple of my customers is how to avoid malware. There are some guidelines, but there are no final solutions unless you find yourself at the point of no return and throw your computer out of the house for good. Some suggestions that I have are listed here http://www.aldentd.com/content/avoiding-malware.
We have now been in our new office for more than two months and I have to say that I like it. It is spacious, still offers a central downtown location and there are normally more parking places available than on School Street. We have received a lot of compliments about our office from our customers and it is appropriate to thank my partner and wife, Wynd, for most of that.
Storage needs?
I found this article on the internet about a DIY server for storing 67TB (67,000 GB ) of data. I personally will never need this much storage unless I start editing films professionally, but the price is very low for this much storage. http://blog.backblaze.com/2009/09/01/petabytes-on-a-budget-how-to-build-cheap-cloud-storage/
Alden Tech & Design is launching its Artwalk Computer/Web Education Series with free presentations beginning with the First Friday of June. "Web Presence for Artists ; Website/pages, Facebook, Twitter, Etsy Explorations."
We will also feature one of a kind Art-cessories by Mahvay (www.mahvay.com, www.aldentd.com).
Come by and enjoy the show! 216 W. Perkins St. # 105 (entrance on Oak). 707-462-3446
Please send your questions to us in an email or go into our forum and post a question there.
HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!

Alden Tech & Design will be MOVING FEBRUARY 15, 2010 to a new downtown location "just around the corner".
New Location:
Our new office (blue building on the corner of Perkins and N. Oak St.) has it's own separate entrance on N. Oak St. which should make it very convenient for our customers. Hopefully, you will find that the parking in this location is just a slight bit easier than on School Street. (turn right on Oak from Perkins and look for a place to park....our entrance is on the Northwest end of the building where the blue awning is. Just look for our sign!).
Welcome to our first newsletter, new web pages, new blog and an online store in our near future.
Stop by our new location at 216 W. Perkins St. #105 (entrance on N. Oak St.) after the 15th. Join us for a new art showing at the March 5th First Fridays Artwalk Ukiah.
Walk ins welcome!
Our new blog will cover computer and web design news and what is happening at Alden Tech & Design. You can find our blog at this address: http://www.aldentd.com/blog. On the page you will see an orange sign. Clicking on it will set up automatic download of new blog postings to your news reader (RSS feed). This way the small articles will automatically come in to your inbox.
Our newsletter is a bigger body of text and I don't want to push that on you unless you really want to receive it. It will only be used for information about moving, new services or products and more in-depth articles about services and products that we offer. You can always unsubscribe from it if you don't want it.
Click here to sign up for our newsletter. Scroll down and look for the newsletter on the left side in the menu. Fill in your email and click on save. You need to confirm that you want the newsletter. Check your email and click on the link.
We will be a part of the First Friday Artwalk and we welcome everyone to come by and enjoy the art that we will have at our new office at 216 W. Perkins St. #105.
Wish you all the best and look forward to hear from you.
